Sequoia National Park a Magical Place

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

Sequoia National Park is a truly magical place and one of my most memorable expeditions. My group of three did the mineral king loop in 6 days which was pretty typical. We started at an elevation of approximately 7000 feet and hit 11600 feet at our highest point. The loop was littered with challenging climbs that rewarded us with some of the most spectacular views.

The terrain is incredibly diverse, ranging from majestic granite mountain peaks, gorgeous alpine lakes, and lush meadows filled with wildflowers. It's this diversity that allowed for some of those fine, quintessential moments in life. Like taking baths in freezing rivers. Watching the night sky with good friends on the top of a mountain, and listening to "Take it Easy" by the Eagles on mesmerizing forest trails. These experiences filled me with immense joy and gratification.

This trip was also an incredible exercise in perseverance and cooperation. It was certainly physically and mentally challenging and required solid teamwork and patience. We encountered a fair bit of technical scrambling, and the inclines of the mountain passes were very demanding for us. There were times where I felt like my lungs were on fire.

As exciting and jaw dropping as the trip was, what I really appreciated was the new type of bond developed with my friends. If I can leave you with any advice, it's that good company is one of the most important things you can take on a trip this gruelling, this wild, this unforgettable.
